Motor Fuel Tax Rate Decreases
April 1, 2015
The North Carolina motor fuels tax for gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels will decrease from 37.5 cents per gallon to 36.0 cents per gallon for the period from April 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015, Department of Revenue Secretary Lyons Gray announced today.
North Carolina Senate Bill 20 became law on March 31, 2015 to set the motor fuels tax rate at 36 cents per gallon with an effective date of April 1, 2015 through December 31, 2015.
The new rate should be used beginning with the gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels reports for April 2015 that are to be filed with the Department of Revenue in May 2015. The state motor fuels tax is included in the retail price paid by consumers at the pump.
