An Apex businessman who was previously indicted on felony state tax charges on March 7, 2023, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Wake County Superior Court to 15 felony state tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue related to three Tobacco Road Sports Cafe locations in Durham, Raleigh, and a former location in Chapel Hill.
A former assisted living businessman pleaded guilty on July 21 in Wake County Superior Court to nine counts of Embezzlement of State Property filed by the N.C. Department of Revenue.
A Mecklenburg County pub owner was arrested on felony tax charges filed by the NCDOR.
The NCDOR has provided updates on the print and mailing delays associated with print vendor PMSI ceasing operations. Those updates include that the agency has mailed approximately 100,000 refund checks that were impacted by the interruption in print and mail services.
The NCDOR confirmed on Monday, May 12, that printing partner, Professional Mail Services Inc., unexpectedly ceased operations and will not complete any further print and mail services for the agency. The department has been made aware that some notices and refund checks were not printed and mailed. NCDOR is in the process of identifying options to resume printing and mailing notices and refund checks as quickly as possible.
The NCDOR will begin administering the new Transportation Commerce Tax later this year. The tax will apply to ride services provided by taxis and transportation network companies beginning on July 1, 2025. Those companies must register with the NCDOR by July 1.
In response to the Internal Revenue Service postponing various federal tax filing and payment deadlines until Sept. 25, 2025, the N.C. Department of Revenue will not assess (or will remove) certain late action penalties on selected state tax filings, payments, and licenses if the transactions are completed by Sept. 25, 2025.
Cumberland County businessman and gaming store owner Garrett T. Steedly, of Linden, pleaded guilty on Monday, April 21, in Wake County Superior Court to six counts of Embezzlement of State Property. The state tax charges were filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
A Rowan County businesswoman was arrested on April 11 on a felony tax charge filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
A former Mecklenburg County businesswoman pled guilty on March 24 in Wake County Superior Court to felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
