Individual Income Tax Return Filing Deadline Is Monday, April 18

The deadline for filing calendar year North Carolina individual income tax returns is Monday, April 18, unless you request an extension. Electronically filed returns must be submitted electronically by midnight on April 18.

The NCDOR Begins Accepting Business Income Tax Returns Effective March 4

The North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR) officially began accepting and downloading 2021 Corporate Income and Franchise, Partnership Income, and Estates and Trust Income tax returns on Friday, March 4. Taxpayers who file state returns electronically will receive acknowledgements.

The NCDOR Opens 2022 Tax Season

The North Carolina Department of Revenue officially opened the 2022 tax season and began accepting and downloading 2021 individual income tax returns effective March 1. Taxpayers who file state returns electronically will receive acknowledgements.

N.C. Department of Revenue Begins Distributing Some Business Recovery Grant Payments

The N.C. Department of Revenue began mailing one-time payments to eligible and approved North Carolina businesses that applied for the Business Recovery Grant (BRG) program prior to the Jan. 31, 2022 deadline. Businesses approved for a grant of $50,000 or less can expect to receive payment in the coming days. Federal law requires persons or entities receiving grant awards in excess of $50,000 to provide additional information before receiving their payments.

The N.C. Department of Revenue Pauses Business Recovery Grant Phase 2 Process

The N.C. Department of Revenue will temporarily pause accepting Phase 2 applications for Business Recovery Grants as the General Assembly considers increasing eligibility for additional types of businesses. The department will continue to process Phase 1 grant awards to approved eligible businesses.

Mecklenburg County Restaurant Owner Charged in State Tax Case

A Mecklenburg County businessman has been arrested on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Matt R. Coben, 61, of Boynton Beach, Fla., was charged earlier today with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

NCDOR Issues Update On Opening Of 2022 Tax Season

The target date for the NCDOR to open state tax season is the week of Feb. 28, with refunds beginning to go out in early April.

Wake County Golf Cart Business Owner Charged in State Tax Case

A Wake County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Byron Todd Unger, 55, of New Hill, NC was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

A Mecklenburg County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Mark F. Ethridge, 62, of Mint Hill, NC, was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

Carteret County Oyster Bar Owner Charged in State Tax Case

A Carteret County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. William Louis Willis, 53, of Newport, NC was charged with five counts of Embezzlement of State Property.
