A Mecklenburg County businessman has been arrested on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Matt R. Coben, 61, of Boynton Beach, Fla., was charged earlier today with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

The target date for the NCDOR to open state tax season is the week of Feb. 28, with refunds beginning to go out in early April.

A Wake County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Byron Todd Unger, 55, of New Hill, NC was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

A Mecklenburg County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Mark F. Ethridge, 62, of Mint Hill, NC, was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

A Carteret County businessman was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. William Louis Willis, 53, of Newport, NC was charged with five counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

The deadline for eligible businesses to apply for Business Recovery Grants is Monday, Jan. 31. The Business Recovery Grant Program (BRG) will issue a one-time payment to eligible North Carolina businesses that suffered an economic loss of at least 20 percent during the pandemic.
The N.C. Department of Revenue will begin processing 2021 tax year returns in mid-February, which is several weeks after the start of the federal tax season on Monday, January 24, 2022. This delay is due to the late approval of the state budget in November 2021, which included multiple tax law changes.
