Some File and Pay Applications Unavailable

The North Carolina Department of Revenue will perform server maintenance that is expected to last from Saturday, June 20 through Monday, June 22 2020. The move will cause outages to the Department’s computer systems during the maintenance.

If you are using the Department’s website, you will not be able to file and pay certain taxes during the outage. The Department will not assess a failure to file or failure to pay penalty for affected tax returns and payments due during the outage, as long as you file the return and pay the tax on or before July 15, 2020.   The affected online file and pay applications are as follows:

  • Sales and Use (E-500, E-536)
  • Withholding (NC-5, NC-5P)
  • Corporate Payments (CD-V, CD-V Amended, CD-419, CD-429)
  • Bill and Notice Payments (web and IVR)

In addition, you will not be able to access certain applications on the Department’s website during the outage.  The affected applications are as follows:

  • Online Business Registrations
  • Where’s My Refund (web and IVR)
  • Registry of Sales and Use Tax Numbers
  • Registry of Direct Pay Permits and Exemption Certificate Numbers

If you call the Department during the outage, DOR personnel may not be able to fully respond to all of your inquiries.

If you have questions about the outage, you may contact the Department at:  1-877-252-3052.  To avoid delays in processing your returns and payments timely, you may seek assistance or file online on or before June 19, 2020.  While the Department will not assess certain penalties related to the outage, the Department does not have statutory authority to waive interest except in limited circumstances.
