Taxpayers who filed a 2022 Individual Income Tax return, but who didn’t pay the full balance due, will receive a collection notice with payment information. If you receive one of those notices, here are some things to consider.

You should pay the tax in full as soon as you can. This will reduce the total amount you have to pay because the law requires the Department of Revenue to charge penalties and interest on your unpaid tax (and interest will continue to accrue until your tax is paid). You can pay online now, without needing to speak to a live person or visit an office.

  • Pay Online Now: go to "Pay a Bill or Notice" and simply click the “Pay a Bill or Notice” link when this page opens. Make sure you have your notice number, taxpayer identification number (which is your social security number for most people), and payment information.
  • Request Payment Plan: if you can’t pay the full amount due, you may be able to set up a payment plan and pay your balance within 12 months. Request a payment plan
