DEI Committee

The purpose of the agency’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is to ensure that everyone at the Department value and increase diversity and inclusion in the areas of diversity of staff; engagement with a wide array of diverse stakeholder groups and communities; and promotion of content and programs that reflect our state’s diverse population.

To accomplish our mission, the committee:

  • Identifies areas where sound practices are already in place, as well as aspects that need improvement, and recommends measures to address those issues;
  • Supports the department’s Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program and seeks to ensure that all employees are valued, respected, and treated fairly, and that diversity is appreciated in the workplace;
  • Sets priorities and provides guidance in the design and implementation of activities and resources to help employees gain the skills necessary to meet the needs of and reflect the diverse communities they serve;
  • Ensures that equity and diversity activities are closely aligned with NCDOR strategic priorities and are responsive to the diverse needs and capabilities of employees.

Additionally, the committee assists in the development of programs, communication, training, activities, policies, and guidelines that support the department’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These efforts help ensure that we provide a climate and culture that fosters, promotes, and encourages social interactions that support, appreciate, and celebrate our differences.
